The Front 54 Operations Command of the New People's Army ambushed the fascist elements of the 69th Infantry Battalion of the AFP yesterday, Sept. 8, killing four troops and wounding several others. The NPA ambush at sitio Malikongkong, Brgy. Suawan, Marilog district, was third in a series of punitive actions against the 69th IB-AFP by the NPA since last month. Red fighters belonging to the 1st Pulang Bagani Company of the NPA ambushed the same military battalion in Brgy. Dalagdag in Calinan district last August 30, and harassed its detachment in Brgy. Paquibato last Sept.5. True to its form, the AFP is quick to twist truths and subvert facts to save face when they are in the losing end. As the AFP suffered these blows, 69th IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Cesar De Mesa was quick to spread outrageous lies by saying that a civilian, habal-habal (motorcycle) driver Ronald Sayan, was hit by the command-detonated explosive (CDX) set-up by the Red fighters. Sayan was not hit by the CDX but by the military's retaliatory fire. For being unable to fight back against the Red fighters, the military, as usual, inflicted its brutality against civilians. This time, it vented its ire against Sayan who happened to pass by three minutes after the CDX was detonated. It is the NPA's standard operating procedure to ensure the safety of civilian/s or civilian vehicle/s in the area before, during and after the switching of the CDX. The NPA Red fighters operating in the hinterlands of Davao City will continue to launch offensives against the 69th IB-AFP and other military units as punitive actions for the military's continuous violations of human rights. Examples of the atrocities committed by the 69th IB-AFP are the damages it caused recently against the livelihood and properties of residents in barangay Dalagdag:
1. Burning of a hut owned by a civilian, Ronie Gilaran. His goat and six ducks were also divested;
2. Burning of a hut owned by a civilian, Joel Tangub;
3. Divestment of two goats, a pig, rope, cooking pot, knife and corn seedlings owned by Lourdes Nawal;
4. Divestment of two goats and 20 chickens owned by Daniel Pableo. He was also accused by the military as NPA's bomb-maker upon finding concrete nails when soldiers searched his house;
5. Resident-farmers were not able to harvest their crops.
